Peter Bulandr

Peter Bulandr

Pete has been a member of the K.I.D.S.S. for Kids, Inc. Board of Directors since 2014 and has acted as President since January 2024. Originally introduced to K.I.D.S.S. for Kids, Inc. in the early 1990s, the Bulandr Family has been involved with the Organization for nearly thirty years. Both the Organization and the Hospital hold an important place in Pete and his family's hearts, having spent the first 36 months of his life in and out of various surgeries and procedures to remove a skin tumor from his scalp. With the help of Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, K.I.D.S.S. for Kids, Inc., and the thousands of people that make their work possible, Pete is a success story of what each and every dollar raised for the hospital is able to accomplish.

Marc Smith

Marc Smith

Marc has been a long time supporter and board member of the organization. Grateful that his children never had to be patients at Lurie Children's he felt an obligation and desire to join his friend Mike and Karla Goldman in the foundation they had formed: KIDSS for Kids.

Yali Derman

Yali Derman

Yali Derman is an inpatient nurse practitioner in the division of hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She serves in a leadership role as board member and medical professional liaison for KIDSS for Kids. Yali has a unique vantage as she witnesses firsthand how the patients (and their families) she cares for reap the benefits of services like art therapy, music therapy, volunteerism, social work and much more that KIDSS helps to support. Yali has been actively involved in raising funds for child life and family services through KIDSS for over a decade. She spear-headed and designed handbags that raised over 1/4 million dollars for Lurie’s and helped build a play space in the Panda center in 2012 when the hospital moved its main campus to Streeterville. https://www.yaliscarryon.com/ Yali continues to elevate her involvement in KIDSS and its mission through her board membership and annual participation in the AON building Step Up for Kids! She’s devoted to stepping up philanthropy to support seriously ill children and their families in every facet of her life.

He also served a two-year term as President in the mid-1990s and has continuously acted as the organization's registered agent and legal counsel. Beginning in the mid-2000s, Mike became involved in the governance of the Lurie Children's Medical Center, and he currently serves on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee, as well as the Audit & Compliance (past-Chair), Compensation (Vice Chair) and Governance Committees. Mike also chaired the Medical Center's Ad Hoc Governance Review Committee in 2018.

Michele Ackerman

Michele Ackerman

Michele has been a member of the K4K board since 2017 but her connection to Lurie began in 1999 due to her daughter’s rare medical condition. Throughout the years, Michele has been active with the hospital as a patient mother and as a supporter through various marketing campaigns and fundraising events. Michele’s experience with the Family Services department began in 2004 when her daughter required extensive inpatient/outpatient procedures. It was during this period that she was able to witness the extraordinary acts of the Family Services team as they helped her own daughter and other patients as they embarked on some very difficult times. While searching for ways to give back to the hospital Michele found the Step Up For Kids Event and started a team in honor of her daughter in 2004. Michele and her Step-Up team have been climbing yearly ever since. Michele’s interest in the event led her to discovering the K4K board where she has, with the board, been able to expand her personal mission of impacting the Family Service’s Department on a larger scale. While on the board Michele has been active on committees, assisted with team recruitment for the Step-up Event and most recently became the Board Secretary

Barbara Liebers

Barbara Liebers

Barbara is currently an Executive Vice President at JLL; has served on the K.I.D.S.S. for Kids Board for over 13 years.
Initially became involved when she saw a “Patient Champions” video and learned about a young child and his family who were
undergoing treatment at Lurie Children’s. Barbara knew then that she wanted to make an impact and help this child and others. The
Board’s passionate commitment to the hospital’s Department of Family Services provides family access to creative therapies in a
friendly and less intimidating environment, so they can focus on their child’s recovery.
One of her favorite gatherings is the annual Step Up for Kids event where the community comes together to climb 80 floors of
the AON Center, a building my company oversees! This event provides an amazing opportunity to support these patients and
their families by fundraising for this special department at Lurie Children’s hospital.
It is “WHY WE CLIMB” as we are in it “FOR THE KIDS”!!
